QFX files store bank and credit card transactions in a format that accounting software like Quicken can read. Excel and Google Sheets cannot open QFX files directly. If you try, you get unreadable text instead of a clean table of transactions.

What is a QFX file?
QFX (Quicken Financial Exchange) is a file format used by banks and credit card companies to provide transaction downloads. It is based on the OFX (Open Financial Exchange) standard. Banks offer QFX files so customers can import transactions directly into Quicken. The format works well for accounting software but is not readable as a table in Excel or other spreadsheet applications.
If you need to import your QFX file into Quicken instead of Excel, open it directly in Quicken through File > Import > Web Connect (.QFX) file.
