This privacy policy explains what information ProperSoft collects, why, and how we use it. ProperSoft is based in Canada and this policy is written in plain language.

What we collect and why

Website usage analytics

We use Clicky.com to understand how visitors use our website — for example, which pages are popular and where visitors come from. Clicky collects anonymous usage data and does not identify individual visitors. We do not use cookies for analytics.

Anonymous usage counts

Our desktop apps keep a random identifier on your computer. It is made up when the app first runs and is not based on your computer, your name or your email. The app's license checks send it with the app version, so we can count how many copies are in use each day. A few of our pages (pricing, downloads, uninstall) count a visit or a download click the same way, with that identifier only when the app opened the page. If you answer the question on the uninstall page, your answer is counted the same anonymous way.

With these counts we keep the country (worked out from your network address, which we do not store), the operating system and the app version. We never receive your files, their contents or names, bank names, account numbers or amounts. New versions of the apps will also count, the same anonymous way, how the app is used (for example that a file was converted); you can turn that off in the app's settings. License checks are always sent, because they are part of your license. These records are deleted after three years. No cookies are used for any of this.

When you cancel a subscription

Before you cancel in the customer area, we ask why. You can choose "I prefer not to say". Your answer, and any text you add, is saved with your subscription, so it is not anonymous. We read the answers to improve our apps and do not share them.

Signing in from the app

When you open the customer area from the app, the app uses your license to sign you in. Your license key is not sent. The customer area then keeps you signed in with one cookie. The cookie is deleted when you close the browser or click Sign out, and it is not used for anything else.

If you purchase a product or contact us, we collect your email address. We use it to:

Payments

We do not handle payment card data directly. Payments are processed by industry-leading payment gateways — Stripe, Paddle, FastSpring, and PayPro Global — each of which maintains its own privacy policy and complies with all required payment security standards (PCI-DSS). Who we share data with

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties or business partners. Your email address stays with ProperSoft.

The only exceptions are the payment processors listed above (for completing your purchase) and Clicky (for anonymous analytics), both described above.

Data retention

We keep your email address as long as you have an active license or subscription, or as long as needed to provide support. You can ask us to delete your data at any time by emailing us.

Canadian law

ProperSoft is based in Canada and complies with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws. You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you and to request corrections.

EU residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Union, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, correct, or erase your data, and the right to object to or restrict processing. Our legal basis for processing your email is the performance of a contract (fulfilling your purchase). To exercise your rights, contact us at the address below.

California residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of your data. We do not sell personal information. To make a request, contact us at the address below.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information. Payment processing is handled entirely by our payment partners, who maintain the highest industry security standards.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
