Need to import transactions from a QIF file into Xero, Sage One, or other OFX-compatible software but cannot make it work? The problem is that your bank provides transactions in a format those apps cannot read.
The Solution: try ProperConvert app. It can convert your transactions from QIF to OFX format.
This tutorial shows how to convert a QIF file from your bank or credit card statement to OFX format. Then import it into QuickBooks Online or another app that supports OFX.
Use the ProperConvert app to convert QIF to OFX. Other formats are supported as well.
Start the app and open a QIF file to convert.
Check that dates are correct, including the year. Confirm deposits and withdrawals are assigned correctly.
Set the OFX Target to match your software, or use 'Regular OFX' as the default.
Set the Account ID and Account Type. Use a different Account ID for each account.
Check 'Open after conversion' to launch the import right after the file is created.
Click the 'Convert' button to create an OFX file.
Confirm the file name and location.
Switch to QuickBooks Online and import the OFX file. Click 'Banking.' Select the account to import into.
Click 'File Upload.' Look for 'Import a statement' or 'Upload a bank file.'
Click 'Browse' to find your OFX file and click 'Next.'
Select a QuickBooks account and click 'Next.'
After import, review and categorize the transactions. Add them to the register. Select the Payee (Vendor Record) and Category (expense/income account) for each transaction.
