Quicken shows another bank's name or imports into the wrong account
When you import a QFX file, Quicken shows a bank name and asks which account to import into. Two things in the file decide what you see: the INTU.BID code and the Account ID. This guide explains both.
The bank name is only a label
The bank name Quicken shows comes from the INTU.BID code in the file, for example Wells Fargo, even if your statement is from another bank. This is fine. Quicken accepts a QFX file only if its INTU.BID belongs to a bank it allows, and it shows that bank's name during the import. The transactions still go into the account you choose, whatever bank the label shows.
Choose the INTU.BID
In ProperConvert, choose your Quicken under Convert for: and QFX-Web-Connect under File format:. The Bank INTU.BID setting is on the right, below the file format:
- Click the 🔍 button next to Bank INTU.BID and type your bank's name.
- Choose a code that is allowed for your account type. A bank can be listed once for checking accounts and once for credit cards.
- If your bank is not listed, use 3000 (Wells Fargo), which allows every account type. If the box is empty, ProperConvert asks at Convert.
Use a different Account ID for each account
The first time you import a file, Quicken links the account you choose to the Account ID and INTU.BID in the file. Later files with the same values go into that account. So if you convert files for several accounts with the same Account ID, Quicken imports all of them into the first account.
In ProperConvert, under Set Account Type and ID::
- For files of one account, keep the same Account ID and account type every time.
- For another account, enter a different Account ID before you click Convert.
The easiest choice is the real account number of each account (digits only).
Your account is not offered
- The account type: Quicken offers only existing accounts of the type in the file. If you set Credit Card, a checking account is not offered. Set the right type under Set Account Type and ID: and convert again.
- An account linked to online banking: Quicken does not import a file into an account that downloads transactions directly from the bank, or that is linked to other values from an earlier file. Turn off the link first (below), import, then link the account to your bank again if you want.
Turn off online banking for an account
Quicken for Windows:
- Choose Tools > Account List and click Edit next to the account.
- Open the Online Services tab and click Deactivate. Click Yes, then OK.
- Choose File > File Import > Web Connect (.QFX) File and select your QFX file.
Quicken for Mac:
- Right-click the account in the sidebar and choose Edit "account name" Settings.
- Click Set up transaction download, then Options.
- Click Manual, then Continue and Finish.
- Choose File > Import > Bank or Brokerage File and select your QFX file.
Quicken skips transaction IDs it has imported before, even deleted ones. To import transactions again, convert the file again rather than importing the old one; see How to avoid importing duplicate transactions in Quicken.
