Import transactions into Microsoft Money (OFX, QIF, QBO, QFX)

Microsoft Money Sunset Edition imports OFX, QIF, QBO and QFX files. OFX, QBO and QFX files go in through File > Import > Downloaded Statement. If your transactions are in CSV, Excel, PDF or another format, convert them to OFX or QIF with ProperConvert first.

File formats Microsoft Money imports

CSV, Excel (XLS, XLSX), TXT, PDF and MT940 files are not imported directly. Convert them to OFX or QIF.

Convert transactions to OFX for MS Money

ProperConvert converts CSV, Excel (XLS, XLSX), TXT, PDF, QBO, QFX, OFX, QIF and MT940 files to OFX. See convert CSV to OFX and convert PDF to OFX.

OFX includes a transaction ID (reference ID). QIF does not. The reference ID lets Money skip transactions you already imported. ProperConvert keeps this ID, and generates a unique one if your bank does not provide it.

OFX files must be created differently for different apps. Microsoft Money has US and non-US versions, plus older versions (99, 2000), and each expects its own OFX variant. Pick the matching option in the OFX output settings.

Convert transactions to QIF for MS Money

ProperConvert converts CSV, Excel, TXT, PDF, OFX, QIF, QFX, QBO and MT940 files to QIF. See convert Excel or CSV to QIF and convert PDF to QIF.

QIF imports work better using "Recover accounts" instead of "Downloaded statements".

How to import QBO and QFX files into MS Money

The same steps import OFX, QBO and QFX files:

  1. Start MS Money and select File > Import > Downloaded Statement.
  2. In the file dialog, select "All Files" as the file type, so QBO and QFX files are listed.
  3. Select the QBO, QFX or OFX file and open it.
