Import a bank statement in MYOB (OFX or QIF)
MYOB imports bank statements in OFX or QIF format, under Banking > Bank Transactions > Import Statements. If your file is CSV, Excel, PDF, QBO or QFX, or MYOB refuses your OFX or QIF file, convert it to OFX or QIF with ProperConvert first. Start with OFX: it is widely accepted, while QIF is an old format being phased out.
Supported file formats
- OFX is the preferred format. In ProperConvert, the "Regular OFX" variant works with MYOB.
- QIF works too, but MYOB has special requirements for QIF files. In ProperConvert, set the QIF target to "MYOB".
Which file to use:
- An OFX or QIF file from your online banking: import it as is.
- An OFX or QIF file that MYOB does not accept: convert it to OFX. ProperConvert extracts the transactions and writes a clean file.
- A QBO or QFX file: convert it to OFX.
- A CSV or Excel file: convert it to OFX. See convert CSV to OFX.
- A PDF statement: convert it to OFX. See convert PDF to OFX.
Convert a statement for MYOB with ProperConvert
- Open ProperConvert and add the transaction file (QBO, QFX, CSV, Excel, PDF and others).
- Select OFX or QIF as the target format. For OFX, use "Regular OFX". For QIF, choose the MYOB QIF target.
- Convert and save the file.
How to import an OFX or QIF file in MYOB
- Log in to MYOB.
- Click Banking, then Bank Transactions.
- Click Import Statements.
- Select the account to import into.
- Browse to the OFX or QIF file and click Open.
- For a QIF file, set "Date format if using QIF" to match how dates appear in the file. If you selected the "MYOB" QIF target in ProperConvert, the date format is DD/MM/YYYY.
- Click Import now.
- Review the transactions: check the assigned account and tax code, and split transactions if needed. Continue for all transactions.
You can create a rule from a transaction (payee, amount and description), so MYOB allocates matching transactions automatically on the next import.
Avoid import problems
- Wrong format: MYOB only reads OFX and QIF. A file in another format, or a QIF without the MYOB settings, fails to import.
- Incomplete files: if the OFX or QIF file is missing details, transactions can be skipped. Check the transaction count and dates before you import.
- Duplicates: importing the same file twice, or statements with overlapping periods, creates duplicate transactions.
- Matching: MYOB asks you to match imported transactions with existing ones. Wrong matches lead to wrong balances, so take your time.
After the import, compare the new transactions with your bank statement.
How to roll back imported transactions
If a file was not imported correctly:
- Click Import Statements, then View Import History.
- Select the account you imported into.
- Click Action.
- Click Continue.
- Click Delete.
