AutoEntry vs ProperConvert: data capture and statement conversion compared
AutoEntry and ProperConvert
AutoEntry and ProperConvert both read bank statements for bookkeepers, and both are used with Sage, QuickBooks and Xero. AutoEntry, owned by Sage, is a cloud data capture service for invoices, receipts and statements that publishes straight into accounting software and charges credits per page. ProperConvert is a desktop converter that saves the bank file for import. This page lists what each one is and what it costs.
The facts below were checked on the two official websites on September 24, 2026. Prices and plans change; the links go to the current pages.
What AutoEntry is
AutoEntry is a web and mobile service that reads purchase and sales invoices, receipts, expenses, supplier statements, bank and credit card statements and purchase orders, sent in by upload, email, scanner or phone photo. Its OCR and machine learning claim up to 99% accuracy with line-item capture. You capture, categorise with VAT codes and supplier suggestions, and publish into Sage, QuickBooks, Xero, FreeAgent, KashFlow, MYOB, Reckon and other packages, or export CSV. Unlimited users and companies come with every plan.
Bank statements are the most expensive document type in AutoEntry's credit system, at 3 credits per page, and the site does not name bank file formats such as QBO or OFX; the route into the software is AutoEntry's own publish step.
AutoEntry pricing
AutoEntry sells monthly credit plans: Bronze 50 credits for $13, Silver 100 for $24, Gold 200 for $46, Platinum 500 for $103, Diamond 1,500 for $298 and Sapphire 2,500 for $469, with prices also shown in GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD, NZD and ZAR. An invoice costs 1 credit, a supplier statement 2, and a bank or credit card statement 3 credits per page, so the $24 Silver plan covers about 33 statement pages. Unused credits last up to 90 days, there is no contract, and the trial includes 25 free credits with no credit card.
What ProperConvert is
ProperConvert is one desktop application for Windows and macOS. It opens PDF statements, scanned PDF statements, CSV and Excel files, and QBO, QFX, OFX, QIF and QMTF files, shows the transactions in a table where you can review, edit, exclude and rename payees, and saves QBO, IIF, QFX, QIF, OFX, CSV and Excel files for QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, Quicken, Xero, Sage and other accounting software. The conversion runs on your computer. Statements are never uploaded to a server.
ProperConvert pricing is one subscription for everything: $19.99 per month or $179.99 per year for one user, and a Team plan of three users at $49.98 per month or $449.97 per year. There are no page, statement or transaction limits, all formats are included, updates are free, and there is a 14-day money-back guarantee. A free trial is on the download page.

Which one fits
AutoEntry fits a practice, especially in the UK and Ireland, that runs all its purchase invoices and receipts through one capture service with VAT codes and wants statements handled in the same queue and published to Sage or Xero without a file. The per-page credit cost of statements is the trade for that convenience.
ProperConvert fits a bookkeeper whose problem is the statement, not the invoices: a year of PDFs from a bank with no feed, a scanned stack from a client, a CSV the software rejects. It converts them all for one flat price, shows every row, saves a QBO, QFX, OFX, QIF or IIF file, and covers QuickBooks Desktop and Quicken, which a publish step to cloud software does not.
Questions people ask
